
Diablo-like video game based on the Alien franchise made in own engine

Game Design DocumentThis project consists of creating a Diablo-like video game from scratch based on the Alien franchise. The game had to be created in a own engine, Ymir Engine, also created from scratch.
The project was a class work for the subject 'Project III' of the 3rd year of the Degree in Video Game Design and Development at CITM - UPC in Terrassa, Spain. This is how Clapcom Studios was born. For the production of this project, the team had to be divided into 3 departments (design, art and code) and use the scrum methodology for the task assignments in each milestone.
This amazing project was completed in only 4 months! In addition to being produced at the same time we were teaching 4 other subjects.
For this project I have assumed the role of lead designer. My main responsibility was to coordinate the design department. That involved assigning tasks, ensuring that each deadline was met and keeping the Game Design Document constantly revised and corrected when necessary.
One of my biggest contributions to the project was on the design of enemies. Starting on the physical appearance and animations. Then moving on to defining their behavior, attacks, stats, spawn and drops. While focusing on enemy design, I also had to work on combat design, level design and audio design.
Once the game was on a testing level my job was to organise playtesting sessions with external agents, as well as creating the forms and processing the feedback gotten through them to ensure a better gaming experience and testing on my own searching for bugs or implementations that needed corrections.
